 Choose
from small vessels, such as cylindrical pencil cups and lidded toothpick
holders, gracefully bowed bud vases, to the more stately vases and elegant
stoppered urns. When you purchase one of these items, however large or
small, you are taking home a piece of natural history. Marble, granite and
related stone earn their beautiful veins of color from fossilized matter –
shell, vegetation, skeletal – that crystallizes over time to create
“impurities” that mark the solid stone. These highly polished vessels are
extremely smooth to the touch.
The
smallest pieces are the lidded toothpick holders, which stand 3 inches
high. Diminutive bud vases range from 3 to 7 inches in height.
Intermediate size vases, including cylinders and those with broad hips,
narrower necks and elegant collars, are variously 6, 12, 14 and 20 inches
tall. A few pieces stand 24 inches tall, including delicately lidded urns
and the largest vases.
You’ll
find a range of color in these stone objects that fits any décor. Deep
terra cotta veins intertwine on a white base in many pieces, shades of
slate and gray weave through others. Many of the items are made from a
variegated stone that has a blue-green vein as well as an ochre hue.
Because each piece is created from a naturally occurring stone, there is
no duplication in appearance. Each piece is unique creation. |
